Calling instructions – when should you call the midwife?

During the pregnancy we will discuss the different calling instructions several times. Below we will discuss the calling instructions. These are also listed on our appointment card.

Please call us on our emergency number 0651249350 in the following cases:

1. Reduced child movement from 26 weeks

From 26 weeks onwards, you child develops their own movement pattern. It is important to be aware of these movements. If you start doubting the movements of your child, contact us and never wait for the next scheduled appointment.

2. Regular contractions

  • Before 37 weeks always call
  • From 37 weeks
    • If it’s your first delivery: if you are experiencing an hour of regular contractions every +/- 3 min which persist for 1 min = call
    • If it’s not your first delivery: if you are experiencing an hour of contractions every 4-5 minutes = call. Sometimes something else has been agreed, if you for example have had a very quick delivery before.

3. Amniotic fluid loss

  • Before 37 weeks always call
  • From 37 weeks
    • With green/brown amniotic fluid; always call
    • With clear/pink amniotic fluid; call during the day
    • Anxiety and/or doubts; call
    • Blood loss like during a period; always call
